Managing mental health in the workplace - including your own!

Thursday 11th September 2025, 9am - 12pm

“A light-hearted approach to tackling a serious problem.”

It seems these days that you can't throw a rock without hitting a consultant who is talking about mental health in the workplace. Mike Hagan is one of those consultants – but maybe one who's worth listening to.

That's because Mike's checkered career path has given him a unique perspective: from being a tradie, union rep, and operations manager on a nuclear plant, to a group safety manager and HR general manager in a multinational organisation. He also has lived experience of burnout – being great at his job, but struggling to look after himself.

He really has seen workplace mental health play out from all angles.

A light-hearted approach to a serious topic

This workshop is designed to help managers understand how mental health plays out in the workplace – without needing to be psychologists or legal experts.

  • How to spot the signs someone isn’t coping
  • Understanding workplace legal obligations (minus the legal jargon)
  • Practical ways to look after your own mental wellbeing

Mike’s approach is real, relatable and stigma-free. His sessions have been described as “a light-hearted approach to tackling a serious problem.”

Do you need to be a little 'Wellfish'?

Mike is the creator of the WELLFISH framework – a practical tool that helps people identify activities to improve their own wellness, without feeling guilty or ‘selfish’ for doing so.

In this workshop, we’ll cover:

  • Why there is still a stigma around mental health in the workplace
  • What mental health really means – and how it plays out at work
  • How to turn legal requirements into practical actions
  • How leaders can create mentally healthy workplaces (not communes)
  • Why we all need to be a little more ‘Wellfish’

Join us for an engaging, honest and highly practical workshop led by Mike Hagan.
